It’s Friday. I sat down to write this post before starting my workday but the train fell off the rails soon after waking up. I love a good morning routine and truly believe that a well-established one can set the tone for the rest of the day. However, the introduction of Teddy Girl has caused our routine to burn and implode and we can’t help but be reminded of our newborn-era experience of parenthood. Thankfully we’ve moved out of the “Why did we do this to ourselves!?!” stage of puppyhood and Teddy Girl is learning the ins and outs of being a family dog. Additionally, Teddy Girl and Alice are moving along nicely in what I’ve titled Operation BFF. The two of them are currently at the peacefully co-existing stage. But I’m not going to lie – our house is a zoo with remote learning, teleworking, a puppy, a kitten, and the holiday craziness…and you know what? The love-filled chaos feels good and is much appreciated after the year we’ve all endured.
This has been a typical scene in our family room for the past few days. The Christmas tree is barricaded from a wrapping paper-obsessed puppy and our kitten can’t keep her paws off the ornaments. The house could certainly be cleaner, our dishwasher has been broken for over a week, and we’re sleep-deprived. I’d be lying if I said it didn’t stress me out – I do not thrive with disorganization – but I am trying my best to go with the flow and embrace the love-filled chaos that is our life right now.
